This Spring, Karen was invited by Biola University's Center for Christianity Culture and the Arts to moderate a conversation with philathropist and author Roberta Ahmanson, and artists, Maja Lisa Engelhardt and Peter Brandes. Each of these individulas is uniquely invested in liturgical art. In fact, according to the center, both Engelhardt and Brandes "have been in large part responsible for a 'renaissance in Danish church interiors'" over the past 25 years. The following conversations deal with the deeply spiritual work of each artist, the subject of beauty, and how they conceptualize making work for sacred space.
Karen is one of several artists featured in Biola University's Year of the Arts documentary about the creative process. John Schmidt Produtions, the creator of the film, provided this segment which includes footage of Karen sculpting a 3/4-life-size "Holy Family" and discussing the symbolism behind the sculpture.
