Harold Richards
Harold Richards opened the Newport Mesa Half-Way House for recovering alcoholic men in 1975. Since then, hundreds of men have had a chance to get on their feet and move ahead in their sobriety. The board of directors of the Harold and Justine Richards Foundation commissioned this bronze portrait bust to honor Harold. The bust is installed in the meeting room of the half-way house.
Harold Richards is humble, honest, compassionate, and joyful. He is always smiling. He testified that helping others maintain their sobriety has been important in his own life. Harold’s motto: “What you see is what you get” is inscribed on the plaque below his portrait.
