Maasai Mother and Child

I was awarded my first commission by South Hill Christian Church in Puyallup, WA. I was to create a bronze sculpture for a missionary family, who were retiring after living with the Maasai people in Kenya. I sculpted it before visiting the Maasai myself, so I had to study their culture and physical characteristics in books. I wanted to capture their elegant spirit while showing the humble life of a mother with her baby.
